Dr. S.S. Sindhu has born on 20th May, 1962 in Karnal, District of Haryana. He earned his B.Sc. (Ag.) & A.H. (Hons.), M.Sc. (Ag.) from GBPUA&T, Pantnagar (Uttarakhand) and Ph. D from Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar (Haryana). He joined Agricultural Research Services (ARS) in 1990 as a Scientist in Horticulture at ICAR-IARI, Regional Station, Katrain (HP), later he was transferred to IARI, (HQ) New Delhi.

He is seasoned academician and researcher with over 35 years of executive-level experience in horticultural sciences with over 12 years in senior administrative roles across various nodal government bodies. He has been the Project Coordinator (Floriculture) in All India Coordinated Research Project in ICAR and Director (Hort.) at Rashtrapati Bhavan. After having wide expertise in various positions, presently he is working as Head of the Division of Floriculture and Landscaping and School Coordinator of Horticulture and Dean at ICAR- Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi for the last seven years.  He has proven track record of numerous innovations, infrastructure development, policy setting, NAAC accreditation, QRT, IRC and RAC, HRD, organizations of various institute events, revenue generation, publications, credentials and collaborations at national and international organizations. He has made significant contribution in entrepreneurial development and livelihood building through self-help groups and FPOs among farmer communities.

His research areas are protected cultivation, landscape gardening, plantation of avenue trees and shrubs, garden design, development and maintenance and bulbous ornamental crops. His work on off season chrysanthemum” through photo-periodic application and protected cultivation technology of high value cut flowers among the major achievements. He has successfully completed many ICAR funded like NAIP, Networking, DST, DBT and NHB sponsored projects. Presently handling consultancy projects of DMRC, MCD, Delhi Jal Board. He has been recently appointed as honorary Chairperson of Biodiversity Management Committee of South MCD. He has developed more than 20 flowers varieties namely Kt-3 of dahlia, Katrain Sel.-1 in daffodil & spontaneous mutant in gerbera, Pusa Kiran, Pusa Unnati, Pusa Srijan, Pusa Sinduri, Pusa Shanti in Gladiolus, Pusa Lily-1 in Asiatic Lily, Pusa Bahar, Pusa Deep, Pusa Prav, Pusa Utsav in Marigold, Pusa Mahak, Pusa Alpana, Pusa Laxami, Pusa Bhargava in Rose and Pusa Guldasta, Pusa Shwet, Pusa Sundri Pusa Lohit in Chrysanthemum and Pusa Akansha in Bougainvillea.

He has guided 08 M.Sc. and 12 Ph. D students, many of them are foreign students. He is teaching advance courses in Commercial Floriculture & Landscape Architecture. He has published 85 research papers, 110 popular articles, 25 short communications, 15 books & bulletins and 40 lead papers. Organized and participated in various workshop, trainings, seminar and symposium at National and International level.

He has been honoured with DAHS Gold Medal, Dr. H. B. Singh Award, National Leaders Memorial Award and Bharat Jyoti Award for his meritorious work in the field of Floriculture and Landscaping. He is recipient of INSA fellowship of Japan under International Exchange Programme. He has been elected as Fellow of the Indian Academy of Horticulture Sciences for his outstanding contribution and leadership in the field of Horticulture. Elected Fellow and Secretary of Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture awarded JSIL Fellowship & Lotus Puruskar for his outstanding work in Ornamental Horticulture. He is Vice President of Rose Society of India, Secretary of Bougainvillea Society of India & ISOH. He has visited Japan, Kathmandu (Nepal), Islamabad (Pakistan), USA, Canada & China.
